Die Bron Primary School: Visit 4

Friday, June 23, 2017 - 13:00 to 19:00

Continuation of Training

The training will focus on the conceptual domain of position, however, will also give teachers an opportunity to share their experiences about the programme with their colleagues.

Position is the 4th conceptual domain of the programme. There are two more conceptual domains that still need to be presented (letter and number). No date has yet been set for the last two training sessions. It might be that the last two sessions are presented in 2018.

The teachers have been applying what they have learnt in their classes with a small group of learners.

The school has formed an implementation committee, headed by the HOD Foundation Phase, to support teachers with the implemenation of the programme.

Today’s workshop was very interesting because it shows us where to start when you teach letter, e.g. I can see, sound, feel, touch and draw the letter A...

Metro South Education District: Teacher Training, May 2014

The Basic Concepts Programme is basically the same as Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development. It is a way of teaching… it gives individuals a way to structure their thinking and reasoning.

Mitchell's Plain Primary School, November 2015

I am extremely grateful for being exposed to this programme … I'm always worried about those learners who are not progressing. The programme can support these learners in order to lay the foundation for academic progress. Practically my whole class needs this Foundation!!! How can I start with formal teaching if they do not know their Basics.

Developed new method/techniques on how to use myself better in sessions and get better potential from children.’ (KIDZPOSITIVE, Occupational Therapist, 2011)

Teacher Feedback

Teachers use questions that evoke thinking and inquiry, so that the learners are able to discover and experience for themselves.
