Thinking Stars @ Floreat: A project of Basic Concepts Unlimited
Description
To train Foundation Phase teachers (Grade R to Grade 3) to implement the Basic Concepts Programme in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning at Floreat Primary in Metropole South Education District, Western Cape.
It is envisaged that the intervention would continue for a period of up to 4 years at the school resulting in a solid foundation for a sustainable project. The project would include ongoing support and mentoring of the teachers.
Evaluation
A baseline measure will be used to determine the school readiness of Grade 1 learners at the start of the project in 2014. Grade 1s’ preparedness for learning after intervention in 2015 will be compared with the baseline data. In addition, the literacy (written word generation) of all the learners in the Foundation Phase will be assessed annually during the project.
