Frances Baard: Training and Mentoring Programme

A group of 30 teachers will be added to the current cohort of 56 teachers in 2022.

Each of the three officials from the district has invited 10 new teachers mostly from their current schools to join the project.

The teachers will attend two training sessions per conceptual domain over the course of the year. See the programme below.

The teachers are required to apply what they have learnt during training inside their classes and share best practices on a dedicated social media site.

I have never been to such a training. I was motivated and I can't wait to implement at the ECD and I hope I'll be doing my best!

Northern Cape Project (Phase 2, 2020-2021): Training Feedback

I was very happy about my development on this courseā€¦ often as teachers we do not pay attention to detail, but because of Basic Concepts I was aware of the lack of language use in my class. I am now using a different approach with my learners and being aware of the small details that make a big change in the way I teach and learners learn. Thank you for this eye opening course.

I am blown away!!! This is most definitely the most useful course that I have ever attended.

Overberg District, Western Cape Department of Education (February, 2019)

The BCP is about the way we talk to the children in class and how we give lessons in class. How we should introduce a topic to the children and mediate with them.

Northern Cape Project (Phase 2, 2020-2021): Training Feedback

I feel very strongly that Basic Concepts should be introduced to all learners- this will give me the time to develop their conceptual language and increase their vocabulary and verbal fluency.

Metro Central Training: Western Cape Education Department (October, 2015)

The workshop was very educative and an eye-opener. These are things that we usually just take for-granted.
