Basic Concepts Symposium Brings Educators Together to Share Best Practice

Paul Greyling Primary School | 22 October 2025

Educators from schools across the local area came together at Paul Greyling Primary for a vibrant Basic Concepts Programme Symposium; a showcase of best practice, shared ideas, and the power of early learning through thinking and language.

On Wednesday, 22 October 2025, a Basic Concepts Programme (BCP) Symposium was held at Paul Greyling Primary School, drawing educators from nearby schools to explore how young learners can develop the conceptual and language foundations they need before learning to read and write.

Participants discussed how many children arrive at school without the vocabulary to describe their environment or express themselves clearly. The BCP team shared both the theory and practical applications of the programme, demonstrating how the Concept Teaching Model and thinking tools can be integrated into daily classroom routines.

Teachers already trained in BCP spoke passionately about the transformative changes they have seen: more confident learners who think, talk, and participate actively in their own learning.

This local symposium created an inspiring space for collaboration and best practice among educators. The enthusiasm and feedback were overwhelmingly positive, with many schools eager to join the 2026 training. Building on this success, the Basic Concepts Foundation hopes to host similar regional symposiums across other districts, allowing teachers to see Basic Concepts in action and continue strengthening early learning together.
