Durbanville Schools Foundation: Training Sessions for Letter (October 2024)

Training & Mentoring Sessions for Letter

The sixth and final set of training sessions was sucessfully run for this new cohort of Foundation Phase teachers in Metro North.

The training sessions were immediately followed up by school visits at each of the project schools. The purpose of these visits was to assist the teachers with their planning of the implemenation phase of the project in 2025.

Date: 08th + 09th October 2024

Time: 14:00 - 16:00

Venue: Alpha Primary School, Durbanville

 

Findings from the third set of training sessions:-

Attendance at session 6a: 59% (13 out of 22)

Attendance at session 6b: 91% (20 out of 22)

The attendance at the first session was below par, while the second session was very well attended. One school with six teachers was unable to attend the first session due to a Department of Education meeting they were obliged to attend.

Attendance at the 12 training sessions was excellent, with an average of 80%.

 

92% of teachers rated the training session as either "very good" or "excellent," with only one teacher rating it as "average."

 92% of the teachers expressed high levels of interest in the BCP, while one teachers expressed an average interest.

 

Summary of comments made by teachers -
The teachers expressed gratitude and enthusiasm for the BCP training, noting the clarity of the presentations and the positive, energetic approach of the facilitator, Dr. Louis Benjamin. Many found the training insightful and helpful, particularly in understanding and supporting learners who struggle. Teachers also appreciated the practical ideas shared for teaching basic concepts, with one highlighting its value for a first-year Grade 1 teacher. The overall feedback emphasized how the programme makes teaching easier and more effective in the classroom.
