BCP Focus Schools: Redriver Primary | Update 2 (2024)
Part of the Project
Redriver Primary School - A focus school in Manenberg
(A report by Gill Brand, our lead focus school field worker in Metro Central)
Initially 9 teachers signed up for the training. Presently there are 7 teachers being trained. Training has been consistent over 3 terms of this year.
Keeping to our scheduled training model and exploring and practicing our skills one Higher Order domain per term.
Term 1 to term 2: Colour
Term 2 to 3: Shape
Term 4: Size
Teachers were required to implement the programme at least twice a week with a small group of learners. A mentoring schedule was drawn up to support the mediators in their classrooms.
The Grade R teachers have been most effectively able to run the BCP on a daily basis. The Grade 1,2 and 3 have had challenges in fitting the programme into their timetable.
It has been a new, exciting and also challenging journey for the majority of the teachers in the group.
All teachers feel that they would like to continue training and practising in the BC programme in 2025.
The BCP has provided a structured programme for teachers whose primary task was to develop their mediation skills and run an effective intervention with their learners.
