Namaqua Education District (Phase 2): Second Visit To The Project, August 2016

Continuation of Training and a Mentoring Visit

We will continue with the training of the 30 Grade R teachers as well as of the 14 Provincial ECD officials.

The training will focus on the conceptual domains of Size and Position.

There will be follow-up mentoring visits to the teachers in their classes after the training on the first and second day of the visit to the project.

The ECD Officials will also accompany me to the classrooms where I will model the approach that we use to mentor the teachers.

Once the ECD officials have returned to their districts they will be expected to continue with the implementation of the programme, now with a focus on the conceptual domains of Size and Position.

We were taught the theory as well as the practice.  I now feel confident to start to implement the programme with my class and even with my nieces and nephews.

The emphasis on language throughout the programme helps to develop learners' understanding of concepts and expand their vocabulary. The BCP stops learners from guessing, it gives them more structure and develops their cognitive functioning.

I have enjoyed the BCP online training. I do think it was of great benefit as I have learned new approaches to help children learn. I also thought that BCP is also very helpful to children with difficulties as it provides them with concrete experience through manipulating the materials and being asked different questions to help them be aware of their way of thinking. Louis was very thorough and delivered the smallest details to help us understand the method. I found that very helpful and it enabled me to use it with my kids who have a difference in age and needs.
