BCP FOCUS SCHOOLS IN SOUTH AFRICA

The principal and management team at Edendale Primary have found that language development is a key challenge for learners at their school and recognised the significant impact the Basic Concepts Programme (BCP) was having at schools in the surrounding area.

They requested training for all 8 of the Foundation Phase teachers, as well as the Learning Support Teacher of the school.

The two first training sessions (Colour and Shape) have already been completed.

Training is being facilitated by master mediator, Gill Brand.

The BCP has been formally added to the Foundation Phase timetables three times a week and the Basic Concepts Foundation provides classroom support and guidance in between trainng sessions.

I understand how I can assist my learners who need intervention. The BCP will boost the self-esteem and knowledge of weak learners. It definitely helps me to guide my learners, using the correct language applicable to the situation.

The BCP is about the way we talk to the children in class and how we give lessons in class. How we should introduce a topic to the children and mediate with them.

Practical demonstration of mediation. Louis is an excellent mediator and it really helped to see it demonstrated. Loved the dedication, enthusiasm and firm belief in worth of BC approach to learning. I really think you opened our eyes to new methods of promoting learning and especially development of language.
