Metro East Focus Schools Project - Support Visit 1 (Colour), Feb 2026

Building Momentum in Metro East

In February, we began our first round of Metro East support visits for the year — an important milestone in the second year of our teacher development journey. Last year, these teachers completed their formal training and received their certificates after working carefully through each domain, one at a time. This year marks a shift: from learning about the Basic Concepts Programme to actively implementing it.

Across the schools, we saw real commitment. Teachers are now running at least one focused intervention group, while Grade R teachers are extending the programme to their full classes. In several classrooms, sessions were well prepared, learners were engaged, and children confidently recalled prior learning — even making independent connections such as identifying light and dark shades of colour. It was encouraging to see learners becoming more verbal and willing to participate.

At the same time, this phase has highlighted where we will focus our support: deepening language, strengthening full-sentence responses, and ensuring the teaching steps are followed with precision. The foundation is in place. With continued mentoring and practice, we are confident that depth and consistency will grow steadily over the year.
