The Ikamva Labantu Partnership: Feedback after Session 1 & 2

Feedback from Training Sessions 1 & 2: Mediated Learning & Language Development

What I discovered:
Participants' reflections revealed a growing understanding that mediation is not simply a teaching strategy but a way of engaging with children throughout the day. They recognised the central role of rich language, meaningful interactions, and warm relationships in developing children's thinking and learning. Many also discovered the importance of giving children opportunities to think independently while intentionally building their vocabulary and communication skills.

How I will use what I learnt:
Participants identified practical ways they would apply mediated learning in their daily practice. Their reflections showed a commitment to creating language-rich environments, encouraging independent thinking, and using every interaction as an opportunity to support children's learning and development.

Where I need more support:
Most participants felt well supported after the first two sessions and reported that they were gaining valuable knowledge and confidence. Those who requested additional support wanted practical guidance in applying mediation tools, initiating meaningful conversations with children, and continuing to develop their skills as mediators. Overall, the feedback reflected enthusiasm for ongoing learning as the programme progresses.

In Summary:
Feedback from the first two sessions was overwhelmingly positive, with most participants reporting that they felt supported and were gaining confidence in applying mediated learning.

While few identified immediate support needs, those who did requested more practical guidance on using the mediation checklist, engaging children in meaningful conversations, and continuing to develop their skills as mediators.

The responses reflected both enthusiasm for the training and a strong commitment to ongoing professional growth.
