How to prepare for a mentoring visit at your school

It has become apparent that there are various factors that assist new mediators when running a BCP demonstration session.

Tips for mentoring visits to your class: -

  1. Be prepared for your visit: Have a Session Planner and your materials ready

  2. Have classroom activities prepared for the rest of your class

  3. Keep your Basic Concepts Teaching Model and Session Planner in sight during your session

  4. Have your intervention group ready to sit on the carpet as soon as your class visitor arrives

  5. The demonstration session does not need to be longer than 10-15minutes

  6. Ask for assistance during your demonstration session... 'Now could you help me to mediate this concept to this learner'

New mediators initially feel nervous about mentoring visits to the their class, but it is our experience that they enjoy these classroom visits and benefit from the guidance.
