Mediating Basic Concepts at Fish Hoek Primary School

I have been mediating the Basic Concepts Programme at Fish Hoek Primary School with 8 Grade 1 learners.

The learners were selected by the Grade 1 teachers because they were not coping with the Grade 1 English curriculum.

I started the programme in July 2023 and will complete the number concept at the end of November 2023.

All the learners have made progress and will be going to Grade 2 in 2024.

I chose to work at Fish Hoek Primary School as it is a very well-organised school and the principal, the grade 1 teachers and the Remedial teacher were very impressed by the Basic Concept programme.

The principal wants to invite Dr Benjamin to give an introduction to the Basic Concept Programme to the Foundation Phase teachers in the first term of 2024.

I am hoping that a teacher at the school will make time to be trained as a Basic Concept mediator and that teachers in the Fish Hoek area can be trained and supported in using the Basic Concepts Programme.

I have enjoyed implementing the programme at the school and would like to thank Dr Benjamin for giving me the opportunity to make a difference in 8 children’s education.

I am looking forward to continuing working with the Basic Concepts Programme in 2024.
